Working with Metadata/Editing IPTC Data

Editing IPTC Data

Read, edit, copy, paste, and clear IPTC data stored with your media.

Open the IPTC Tab#

  1. Select one image or video.
  2. Open the right metadata panel.
  3. Choose the IPTC tab.
  4. Review the IPTC sections, including rights, creator, location, event, artwork, people, model release, and image details.

Tip

IPTC editing is available for one selected item at a time so you can review the exact embedded fields before saving.

Edit IPTC Fields#

Use the text fields, lists, and grouped tables in the IPTC tab to update embedded metadata. Some shared fields, such as title, description, keywords, copyright, and capture date, stay synchronized with the main metadata and image info fields.

For grouped data such as image creators, copyright owners, licensors, and locations, click Add entry, fill the row, then click Done. You can edit or remove existing rows with the row action buttons.

Copy and Paste IPTC Data#

To reuse IPTC data:

  1. Select the source image.
  2. Use Copy IPTC Data from the command palette, metadata menu, or image context menu.
  3. Select the target image or images.
  4. Use Paste IPTC Data to apply the copied IPTC data to the selection.

Pasting IPTC data also carries the shared title, description, and keywords from the copied record so the metadata stays consistent.

Clear IPTC Data#

To remove IPTC-only fields from selected images, use Clear IPTC data from the command palette, metadata menu, toolbar clear menu, or image context menu.

The clear action keeps core copyright, title, description, and keywords intact while removing the additional IPTC fields.

Write IPTC Back to Files#

After editing IPTC data, use Write Metadata to Files or your metadata write workflow to embed the current EXIF/IPTC/XMP metadata into the media files.

Tip

Use this before exporting or uploading when downstream tools need to read the IPTC fields directly from the file.
