Advanced Metadata/Capture Dates

Managing Capture Dates

MetaPhotoAI automatically retrieves the capture date from the EXIF data of your image or video files. However, you can manually override this date for individual files or large batches of media.

Changing the Capture Date for a Single File#

Select the file

Click on the thumbnail in the filmstrip to load it into the main view.

Open Info tab

In the right-hand panel, click the Camera icon (Info tab).

Edit date

Scroll down to the "Capture Date" field and click directly on the date or time.

Update

In the popup window, select the new date and time.

Save

Click "Save" to apply the changes.

Note

The Info tab will now display both the original EXIF capture date and your new "User Provided Date."

Changing Capture Dates in Bulk#

If you need to update a group of images—for example, if your camera's clock was incorrectly set—you can apply a single date to multiple files at once:

Select multiple files

In the bottom filmstrip, use Shift + Click to select a range of images or Cmd/Ctrl + Click to select specific ones.

Access bulk actions

Click the ellipsis icon (three dots) in the bottom action bar.

Select Capture Date

Choose "Capture Date" from the menu.

Batch update

A dialog box will appear, confirming that the new date will be applied to your selected files.

Save

Enter the desired date and time, then click "Save."

Metadata Integration#

Manually updated capture dates are integrated into MetaPhotoAI's AI analysis. If you generate Editorial Metadata, the application will automatically use your user-provided date in the formatted caption.

ScenarioExample Caption Format
Editorial content"Glastonbury, CT, USA - January 1, 2025..."
Standard contentDate stored in EXIF metadata

Tip

By accurately managing your capture dates, you can maintain a perfectly chronologically organized library and ensure your professional submissions meet the strict timing requirements of stock agencies.
