Filtering Media
Filters are an essential tool for managing large collections of media. They allow you to quickly isolate images or videos based on their metadata status, color tags, or other specific attributes.
Accessing Filters#
To open the filter menu, click the "Filter" button located in the action bar at the bottom of the workspace.
Filter Categories#
You can filter your library using a wide variety of criteria:
Metadata Completeness#
Find files that are missing specific information:

| No Title / Has Title | Filter by title presence |
| No Description / Has Description | Filter by description presence |
| No Keywords / Has Keywords | Filter by keyword presence |
| No Categories / Has Categories | Filter by category presence |
Color Tags#
Show only files marked with specific tags:
- Red Tag
- Orange Tag
- Yellow Tag
- Green Tag
- Blue Tag
- Purple Tag
Processing Status#
| Filter | Description |
|---|---|
| Has Metadata / No Metadata | Whether AI metadata has been generated |
| Has Warnings | Files with validation warnings |
| Has Been Uploaded | Files that have been uploaded to stock agencies |
| Has Editorial Status | Files marked as editorial |
| Has Additional Details | Files with extra metadata fields |
Combining Filters#
MetaPhotoAI allows you to apply multiple filters simultaneously to create highly specific searches.
Example: Find images needing titles#
Open filters
Click the "Filter" button.
Select first filter
Select "Has Categories" to see all categorized images.
Add second filter
Select "No Title" from the same menu.
View results
The filmstrip will now only display images that have been categorized but still need a title.
Note
If no files meet all selected criteria, a "No matches" notification will appear.
Clearing Filters#
To return to your full folder view:
Open filter menu
Click the "Filter" button.
Clear all
Select "Clear All Filters" at the bottom of the list.
Alternatively, you can uncheck individual filters to broaden your search results.

Tip
Combine filters with color tags to create a visual workflow system. For example, use "No Keywords + Yellow Tag" to find files that are in progress but incomplete.
Quick Filter Shortcuts#
For common filter combinations, you can use keyboard shortcuts:
Mac:⌘+F|Win:Ctrl+FThis opens the filter panel for quick access.
