Your Library/Global Search

Global Search

Find specific images, videos, or folders across your entire library.

  1. Locate the Search Bar: Find the search input field at the top center of the application window.

  2. Enter Your Keywords: Type in any term you are looking for.

  3. Review the Results: A dropdown menu can show:

    • Commands: Actions you can run immediately
    • Folders: Folders whose names match your search term
    • Images: Files that contain the search term in their metadata
    • Recent: Recent search terms

The search bar is also the command palette. When the search field is empty, MetaPhotoAI shows a collapsed list of top commands and a count, such as 5 of 51.

Click View all commands to browse every available command. Click Show top commands to collapse the list again.

Tip

Commands stay collapsed by default so search results remain easy to find.

Understanding Search Matches#

MetaPhotoAI shows you why each result matched your search. Under each image result, you'll see badges indicating where the keyword was found:

  • Title: The keyword is part of the image's title
  • Description: The keyword was found in the description
  • Keywords: The keyword exists as one of the assigned tags

Results also display the file name and folder path.

Fast Navigation#

  • Clicking a Folder: Immediately switches your view to that folder in the directory browser.
  • Clicking an Image: Takes you directly to that file, loading it into the main preview area and highlighting it in the filmstrip.

To limit your search to just the current folder:

  1. Look for the globe icon inside the search bar (indicates Global Search).
  2. Click the globe icon to transform it into a folder icon (Folder-Specific Search).
  3. Now your search will only show results from the active folder.

Tip

Toggle between global and folder-specific search by clicking the icon in the search bar.
