Getting Started/Adding Media to Existing Folders

Adding Media to Existing Folders

Multiple ways to add new images or videos to a folder already loaded in the application.

Direct File System Method#

The simplest way to update a folder in MetaPhotoAI is to manage the files through your computer's native file system (Finder on macOS or File Explorer on Windows).

  1. Navigate to the physical folder on your hard drive.
  2. Add your new images or videos directly into that folder.
  3. MetaPhotoAI will detect the changes and update the library view.

Add Files to Folder#

Use this method when you want to add specific files into the currently selected folder without dragging.

  1. Select the destination folder in the Folders panel.
  2. Open the command palette with Cmd/Ctrl+K.
  3. Choose Add Files to Folder.
  4. Select the images or videos to import.
  5. Choose whether to copy or move the files if MetaPhotoAI asks.

Tip

This is the best documented alternative to drag and drop for adding individual files to an existing folder.

Drag and Drop Method#

You can also add files directly within the MetaPhotoAI interface:

  1. Open your computer's file explorer and select the images or videos you want to add.
  2. Drag the selected files and drop them directly onto the Film Strip (the carousel of thumbnails at the bottom).
  3. An "Import Files" dialog will appear, asking how you would like to handle the files:
    • Copy to Folder: Creates a duplicate of the files
    • Move to Folder: Moves the files from their original location
    • Remember my choice: Check this box to apply your selection to all future imports

Configuring Import Settings#

If you want to change your default import behavior:

  1. Click the Settings gear icon.
  2. Stay on the General tab.
  3. Locate File Import Behavior.
  4. Choose your preferred default action:
    • Always ask: Displays the dialog every time
    • Always copy: Automatically copies files
    • Always move: Automatically moves files
